(1) It is not possible to quantify State taxes and charges paid by petroleum companies and attributable to WA crude oil exports only as (with the exception of royalties) these payments are not disaggregated by commodity. Royalty payments are indicated in the answer to the next question. (2) Royalty payments derived from WA crude oil exports over the past five financial years are as follows: Financial Year Royalty ($M) 1998-1999 24.49 1999-2000 67.09 2000-2001 107.10 2001-2002 101.53 2002-2003 94.82 These payments relate to royalties collected from petroleum projects located on both onshore and offshore areas of WA. (3) The number of barrels of crude oil exported from WA over the past five financial years includes: Financial Year Crude Oil Exported (barrels) 1998-1999 42,457,431 1999-2000 51,400,510 2000-2001 58,745,423 2001-2002 65,327,740 2002-2003 51,618,068 These exports relate to petroleum projects located on both onshore and offshore areas of WA (including those Commonwealth controlled areas adjacent to WA). (4) Crude oil resources of WA are located in the Carnarvon Basin, the northern Perth Basin and the northern margin of the onshore Canning Basin. However, the Offshore Carnarvon Basin has contributed more than 97% of the WA’s cumulative hydrocarbon liquid and gas production. (5) Woodside Energy, Chevron Texaco, BHP Billiton Petroleum, Exxon Mobil and Santos are the major companies responsible for the WA’s crude exports as operators for joint ventures of companies. Individual companies in some cases may make their own crude sales arrangements. (6) Research by APPEA and the WA Government shows that over 17000 employees are employed by the upstream petroleum industry in WA.
