(1) I refer the Minister to an election promise to build two new women's refuges in Western Australia, and ask in regards to the Ellenbrook facility: (a) what funds have been committed to the facility; and (b) when is the facility planned to be fully operational? (a) The anticipated costs for the new refuge include operational and capital costs. Following an open tender selection process the Department for Child Protection and Family Support (the Department) has committed $337,506 recurrent funding from 2015-16 to operate the Refuge. The Housing Authority has committed $2 million to construct the facility which will provide for land acquisition, construction, capital administration and other costs.
(b) Construction of the refuge has commenced with anticipated completion in late December 2015 or early 2016.

(a-b) The Department has committed an additional $375,000 recurrent funding to the Aboriginal Alcohol and Drug Service Inc. for the operation of the new redeveloped Wooree Miya Women's Refuge. The total operational budget will be approximately $1 million per annum. The facility will be built in the south east metropolitan area and will able to accommodate women with older boys and larger families. The proposed facility will accommodate ten families, or ten women and up to 42 children. The anticipated costs for the new redeveloped refuge include operational and capital costs. For further information regarding capital costs please refer to the Minister for Housing.
(c) The Department of Housing has awarded a contract for the construction of the facility. Construction is due to commence in August 2015.
(d) The anticipated completion date is late April 2016, with the refuge becoming fully operational around May 2016.
