NEWMAN HOSPITAL
31. Mr V.A. CATANIA to the Minister for Health:
I have a supplementary
question. Does the minister agree with the shire president's assessment
of Newman Hospital as no longer being fit for purpose; and would the
upgrade of such a dilapidated facility have been delayed if it was in the
minister's metro seat, rather than in regional Western Australia?

AnswerView source ↗

I certainly agree with the honourable gentleman, the shire
president —
Mr V.A. Catania : She; it is Lynne Craigie.
Mr R.H. COOK : Yes, Lynne Craigie of course. I absolutely
agree, which was the reason that, in 2013, the Labor opposition made an election
commitment to ensure that Newman Hospital was improved. We had to sit for
another four years on the opposition bench while we waited for members opposite
to at least respond to the needs of the people
in Newman and those of Newman Hospital. What happened, Mr Speaker? Nothing! In
eight and a half years , absolutely nothing happened! We are committed to
improving the services at Newman Hospital. I have visited that hospital and I agree
that it needs to be redeveloped. We will get on to it —
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : The wall of noise!
Mr R.H. COOK : We will get on to it because we care
about the people in the regions; members opposite do not!
