I refer to question without notice C1397, asked in the Legislative Council by Hon Stephen Dawson to the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs on Thursday, 20 November 2014, and ask: (a) where did the Minister and/or Department obtain the population figures from; (b) if they were obtained from the previous census, please provide the information; (c) if they were not obtained from the previous census, please provide the source and information; and (d) please provide the names and the population of each community for the: (i) West Kimberley; (ii) East Kimberley; (iii) Pilbara; (iv) Goldfields; and (v) Midwest?

(a) - (d) Population and other data on remote Aboriginal communities were sourced from a range of collections including the Australian Bureau of Statistics Census of Population and Housing 2011, past Environmental Health Needs Surveys and ad-hoc information supplied to the Department of Aboriginal Affairs.
