Ken Travers questions the Minister for Education on why enrolment projections are available for high schools until 2025 but only until 2023 for primary schools in North Perth, Highgate, Kyilla, and Mount Hawthorn. NORTH PERTH, HIGHGATE, KYILLA AND MOUNT HAWTHORN
PRIMARY SCHOOLS
438. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the Minister for
Education:
I refer to the minister's
claim in his answer to question without notice 379 provided on 11 May 2016 that
projections for a primary school are not available beyond 2023. Why can the
minister give projections for high schools in 2025 and not primary schools?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
Secondary school projections are
based on the eight year levels of primary enrolments up to 2023. Students in
kindergarten in 2016 will be in year 7 in 2024. To enable enrolments to be
predicted for 2025, it was assumed that the year 7 enrolment in 2025 will be
the same as that in 2024. At present, the department has no accurate
information on students who will attend individual primary schools in 2024 and
beyond. I would suggest that might be due to the fact that some of them would
not have been born yet.
Hon Ken Travers interjected.
Hon PETER COLLIER : Yes, but that was the year earlier.
