KARRAKATTA CEMETERY
RENEWAL PROGRAM — HISTORIC POLICE GRAVES
1152. Hon AARON STONEHOUSE to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Local Government:
I refer the minister to his recent
media statement, issued on 8 November 2018, entitled ''Recognition of
120 years of regional policing''.
(1) How many
historic police graves, as recognised by the Western Australia Police
Historical Society, are located in sections of Karrakatta Cemetery currently
scheduled to be included in the cemetery renewal project?
(2) Does the
minister echo the comments of the Minister for Police, in that same media
release, when she noted, and I quote, ''Our Police Force has been
keeping us safe since the 1830s''?
(3) If yes to
(2), will the minister commit to preserving any and all historic police graves
and headstones in their current locations in Karrakatta Cemetery; and, if not,
how can the minister put his name to a media release that talks about a ''fitting
recognition of the deep roots the Western Australia Police Force has in the
community''?
