I thank the member for some notice of this question. On behalf of the Minister for Education I provide the following response — The 2008 attendance rate for the Canning education district is 90.9 per cent. The 2008 attendance rate for the Fremantle-Peel education district is 91.6 per cent. The attendance rate is based on semester 1 data for each school in the district. Term 4 data is only collected at the school level. Every school is required to record attendance data, including whether an absence is authorised or unauthorised. Unauthorised absences will include truancy, but this can be determined only by the school. Truancy data is not collected centrally. The attendance rate is the percentage of time that students in the district attended school during semester 1.
