MELVILLE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL — PERFORMING
ARTS CENTRE
1017. Hon SUE ELLERY to the Minister for
Education:
(1) Is the
minister aware of the situation at Melville Senior High School of squeezing
students and parents into a double classroom–sized studio for arts
performances?
(2) Are there plans to build an arts
centre at Melville Senior High School?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) I am advised that performing
arts at Melville Senior High School use two rooms with bi-fold doors.
(2) There are
currently no plans for a new performing arts centre at Melville Senior High
School. I am advised by the Department of Education that the school has not
previously asked the department for a new performing arts centre. However, I am
familiar with Melville Senior High School and I have a lot to do with it. The
school has a good aeronautics program and a whole pile of things, but we will
need to consider this matter. It is a good school and a good alternative to
John Curtin College of the Arts. It is certainly something that we will
consider.
