(2) Within 15 to 18 minutes of the timetable. (3) The main reasons are: · Track speed restrictions that have been put in place by the leaseholders of the line, WestNet Rail Pty Ltd, based on engineering advice. · Delays at freight train crossings, which occurs when either freight trains or the Australind runs out of schedule. · Signalling failure ? for safety reasons if the automatic signals fail then each section of track is entered and departed by manual operation, requiring the railcar driver to leave the train. · Unscheduled additional time occasionally taken for passenger loadings. (4) Plans include upgrading the track and installing concrete sleepers and work is expected to commence during 2004/05 to improve track speeds on parts of the line. Faster passenger loading will be assisted by high level platforms which have been constructed at key stops and by the installation of smart card ticketing technology during this financial year.
