Regarding the existing industrial agreement which determines the pay and working conditions of teachers and administrators in Government schools which expired on 1 March 2006, I ask -
(1) What progress has been made in reaching a settlement with the State School Teachers’ Union of Western Australia, on a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement for teachers and administrators in Government schools?
(2) What specific monetary incentives is the Department of Education and Training intending to put in place, through the enterprise bargaining process, to ensure the teaching profession is financially attractive to new and experienced teachers in Government schools?

The result of the ballot of SSTU members is likely to be known early in July 2006. It is proposed that every teacher will receive a minimum of a 9.0% increase over two years giving faster access to salary increases than ever before. Also on offer is additional DOTT time for primary school teachers, Heads of Learning Area and Level 3 Primary Principals.
