I refer to an article in School Matters of 6 May about programs for Aboriginal parents and ask - Can the parliamentary secretary describe the $1 million program that will better involve Aboriginal parents and communities in education decision making? Hon G.T. GIFFARD

I thank the member for some notice of this question. The indigenous education strategic initiative program funding allocated to district offices is to be focused on increasing the involvement of Aboriginal parents and community members in educational decision making. These funds are primarily focused toward the school and district levels. They will incorporate Aboriginal student support and parent awareness committees and district councils of Aboriginal education in joint partnerships to improve attendance and participation. They are also aimed at increasing the involvement of Aboriginal parents and community members in the education family links program.
