1105. Hon AARON STONEHOUSE to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Local Government:
I
refer the minister to the ongoing renewal of Congregational EA and FA at
Karrakatta Cemetery, and specifically to the letter I passed to his office on
20 August 2020 about the gravestone of Warrant Officer Stanley Castlehow—EA
0034.
(l) Is it the
case, as I have been informally advised, that Warrant Officer Castlehow's
gravestone has been retained in situ?
(2) On what date
did the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board reach a decision about Warrant Officer
Castlehow's memorial?
(3) For what
reason or reasons, and with access to what facts, did the Metropolitan
Cemeteries Board decide to retain his stone, when so many others were removed?

(1) Yes.
(2) It was on 18 August 2016.
(3) The
Metropolitan Cemeteries Board's Monument Assessment and Advisory
Committee recommended to retain the monument on 18 August 2016 due to high
visitation. The MCB monitors areas for visitation during the preparations for
renewal.
