(1) The Road User Representative on the Road Safety Council is the Royal Automobile Club of WA (RAC). (2) An advertisement was placed in the Western Australian newspaper inviting expressions of interest from relevant groups. The Minister responsible under the Road Safety Council Act 2002 is responsible for appointing the membership of the Council. (3) The RAC has established a Road Users Consultative Committee (RUCC) and is currently reviewing the Terms of Reference and membership to ensure all road user groups are represented. (4) The RAC reports directly to the Council and provides an important role in communicating with and establishing the views of key road user groups. In addition, all agencies represented on the Council have a variety of inclusive and consultative mechanisms established with their various stakeholders. (5) Arriving Safely the WA road safety strategy for 2003-2007, recently launched by the Government, focuses on those issues with the potential to reduce road trauma. There are seven classes of initiatives that are proven effective measures that reduce road crashes and address the four key behaviours. All road user groups are addressed and will accrue their greatest benefit by focusing efforts and resources on these classes of initiatives and the key behaviours.
