(1) Yes. The Aboriginal Home Ownership Scheme provides for low deposit loans and shared equity loans. (2) Applicants must: · Be over 18 years of age. · Provide written confirmation from a recognised Aboriginal organisation that they are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. · Have a satisfactory rental and credit history. · Not have outstanding debts to the Department of Housing and Works or Keystart except where a repayment arrangement has been entered into. · Not own or part own property or land in Australia. · Not be bankrupt or discharged from bankruptcy within the last two years. · Demonstrate the capacity to meet required repayments. · Be within the current Department of Housing and Works' income limits for a shared equity loan or Keystart limits for a full loan. · Provide a deposit of 2% or $2000. · The First Home Owners Grant may be used towards deposit and loan fees. · Those not eligible for the First Home Owners Grant may be assisted with a grant of up to $3000 from the Department of Housing and Works to assist with purchase costs. · The amount they can borrow will depend on their income and the level of other debts. · Comply with other Keystart lending criteria.
