On behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for
Health, I thank the member for some notice of the question.
(1) The following services will fully
transition from Royal Perth Hospital, following the completion of the phased
opening of Fiona Stanley Hospital: state adult burns service; cardiothoracic
surgical services, with the exception of support to state adult trauma service;
advanced heart and lung services; heart, lung and kidney transplantation;
ambulatory comprehensive cancer service; medical oncology; radiation oncology;
bone marrow transplantation; haemophilia; and sleep service.
(2) From 7 February 2015 , with the phase 3 opening of Fiona Stanley Hospital,
chemotherapy services will be substantially reduced, with Royal Perth Hospital
continuing to provide chemotherapy to some haematology patients only. On 3 February
2015, new patients requiring radiation oncology will commence their treatment
at Fiona Stanley Hospital. Patients who have already commenced their radiation
oncology treatment at Royal Perth Hospital will continue their treatment cycle
at Royal Perth Hospital, with the service ceasing at Royal Perth Hospital in late
March 2015 once all patient radiation oncology treatment cycles are complete.
(3) Not applicable.
(4) (a) The current oncology staff at Royal
Perth Hospital will be transitioning to the following work locations —
(i) medical: currently 10
consultants. Of these, eight will be going to Fiona Stanley Hospital. Of the
remaining two, one is retiring and the other is considering options across the
South Metropolitan Health Service.
(ii) nursing: currently 15 nurses;
seven will be going to Fiona Stanley Hospital; six will remain at Royal Perth
Hospital; and two are casual staff;
(iii) administration: currently 10
administrative staff; seven have chosen to remain at Royal Perth Hospital and
three are on fixed-term contracts.
(iv) hotel service: nine staff;
seven are casual; one will be transitioning to Fiona Stanley Hospital and the
other will remain at Royal Perth Hospital.
Following the phased opening of Fiona Stanley Hospital, chemotherapy
services in the South Metropolitan Health Service will be provided at the
comprehensive cancer centre at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Rockingham General
Hospital, Peel Health Campus and Royal Perth Hospital—some haematology
patients only. Radiation oncology services will continue to be provided by
Genesis Care at Fiona Stanley Hospital. The South Metropolitan Health Service
does not employ any of these staff.
(b) Inpatients under the care of a medical
oncologist and ambulatory care cancer services. These services are being
transferred to the sites outlined in (4)(a).
