I am advised of the following - (1) Under current policy, the Government purchases houses in Wittenoom on the basis of voluntary agreements reached with property owners. (2) The Government has not made any decision to change the above property purchase policy. (3) The Wittenoom town site is heavily contaminated with asbestos tailings, and the Government’s Wittenoom property purchase policy is designed to reduce the size of the population remaining in Wittenoom.
