Immunisation schedule—Meningococcal B vaccine
1264. Hon Julie Freeman to
the Leader of the House representing the
Minister for Preventative Health:
I refer to reports
of the five-year-old Munglinup boy who this year battled a life-threatening
meningococcal B infection.
(1)
In light of this case, will the Cook Labor government commit to adding the
meningococcal B vaccine to the free immunisation schedule so that Western
Australian children and teenagers are protected without families having to pay
$130 per dose?
(2)
Will the government ensure that every child in Western Australia can access the
meningococcal B vaccine as soon as possible?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. On behalf of the Leader of the
House, the following response has been provided by the Minister for
Preventative Health.
(1)–(2)
The Department of Health continues to monitor the epidemiology of meningococcal
disease in Western Australia and provides advice on required health
interventions to government accordingly. The meningococcal B vaccination has
been fully funded under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) since July 2020
for Aboriginal and medically at-risk children. This program is demonstrating
positive coverage in Western Australia for the most vulnerable cohorts.
