I refer to the Browse LNG Precinct, and ask -
(1) Is the Minister aware that the LNG Precinct, if approved, will be the largest industrial source of air pollution in Australia?
(2) If no to (1), what does the Minister understand the projected emissions per annum of different pollution from the Precinct will be and what industrial facility emits or will emit more of these pollutants per annum?
(3) If yes to (1), how will the Minister ensure that the increased level of pollution arising from the development of the Browse LNG Precinct will not create health impacts for residents of Broome, the Dampier Peninsula and the surrounding area?

(1-3) The Environmental Protection Authority is currently assessing a strategic proposal for the development of a precinct to produce liquefied natural gas (LNG) from gas fields in the offshore Browse basin.  When the Environmental Protection Authority completes its assessment, it will provide the Minister for Environment with a report on the projected levels of air emissions, together with other environmental matters, and recommendations to ensure the health of residents is properly protected. At present, the Browse LNG precinct proposal is still under assessment by the Environmental Protection Authority and it would be inappropriate for me to comment on these matters until that assessment is completed.
