EAST METROPOLITAN HEALTH
SERVICE — ICON CANCER CENTRE
1141. Hon DONNA FARAGHER to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the article in Echo
News titled ''Call to action from Midland cancer treatment'',
dated 22 August 2024, that refers to comments by the state manager of Icon
Cancer Centre that —
''There
is an opportunity for the state government to enter into a public private
partnership with Icon Cancer Centre in Midland to provide RO services
closer to home.''

''EMHS have already
proactively approached Icon Cancer Care (for the partnership).
(1) Is the government considering
such a partnership?
(2) If yes, what
is the status of discussions between Icon Cancer Centre and East Metropolitan
Health Service, and when is a decision expected to be made?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
The following answer has been
provided by the Minister for Health.
(1)–(2) The
Department of Health is currently undertaking a statewide cancer specialty
review. That is due for completion at the end
of 2024. This review will determine the future and optimal configuration of
cancer services in Western Australia, including radiation oncology. To
ensure the best outcomes for those experiencing cancer, the review is guided by
key principles such as person-centred care, equity of access, sustainability
and safety, and quality of care in line with the Australian cancer plan 2023–2033
and the WA cancer plan 2020–25 . All options for the configuration and funding of
cancer services in areas of need are being considered.
