BANKSIA HILL DETENTION
CENTRE — TIM MARNEY
1162. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the
Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to the departure of Tim
Marney from the Department of Justice six months after commencing a new model
of care program at Banksia Hill Detention Centre.
(1) Will the
minister confirm that it was always the intent of the Labor government to
employ Mr Marney for only six months and not include him in the implementation
of the new program?
(2) If yes to
(1), why was Mr Marney's comment, ''This endeavour is far too
important for me just to deliver a report
and then walk away. I really wanted to be part of seeing it through'',
included in the announcement of his appointment by media statement by
the former Minister for Corrective Services on 4 April 2023?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me
by the Minister for Corrective Services.
(1)–(2) The intention was always to appoint Mr Marney to a
fixed-term part-time contract in the role of consultant , Banksia Hill
implementation, for six months from 28 March to 27 September 2023. Prior to
this period of employment, Mr Marney was employed by Nous Group, which was engaged
to work with the Department of Justice on the development of the operational
philosophy and service model.
