For those Agencies under the Minister’s control, for the 2008-09 financial years can the Minister advise, -
(1) How many ‘appropriate authority investigations’ into alleged misconduct were conducted by Agencies under your control?
(2) Of the total, how many are complete?
(3) What was the finding from the investigation?
(4) Was a report done on each of those investigations?
(5) If no to (4), why not?
(6) Were these reports made public?
(7) If no to (6), why not?
(8) How many investigations are still ongoing/outstanding?
(9) What is the nature of the investigations?

(1) 335 new cases were received and 80 cases were carried over from 2007-08, making 415 total.
(2) 335 cases were completed.
(3) 101 allegations were substantiated.
(4) Yes.
(5) Not applicable.
(6) No.
(7) Reports of investigations into staff misconduct are not released to the public because it would be inappropriate to do so. However, on occasion matters of public interest involving staff misconduct are released to the public via a media release.
(8) 17 of these matters are still ongoing.
(9) In 2008-09 the main focus of misconduct investigations related to:
Assaults and threatening behaviour;
Breach of Standards and Policies including breaches of computer and telecommunications facilities policy and breach of confidentiality;
Failure to report incidents;
Matters relating to dishonesty; and
Trafficking contraband into prisons.
