HOUSING — RENT AND EVICTION MORATORIUM
511. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Housing:
I refer to question without notice
347, and ask that the minister please provide an update on the total number of
termination notices from public housing for the months of June and July 2021
respectively?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
The termination of a tenancy is an
option of last resort when all other efforts to sustain the tenancy have
failed. Ultimately, the decision to end a tenancy is a matter decided by the
Magistrates Court. Termination notices do not represent a terminated tenancy or
an eviction. A termination notice provides the tenant with a final notice and
the intent to progress the matter to the courts. From 1 June 2021 to 31 July
2021, 353 termination notices were issued and no bailiff evictions occurred.
There has been an overall decline in the number of termination notices issued
since the lifting of the moratorium compared with the months prior to the
pandemic.
