(1)–(2)
That is a much better format to the question, and I am happy to answer it. The
answer is still no, which is the answer that I gave yesterday. The reason for
that is twofold. Firstly, remember the report was done for the director general
by an officer appointed to a position, marked private and confidential, and
provided by him to the director general for his assessment. Secondly, if one
wants the public to look at that document, to assess what it contains, who
better to choose to do that than a committee of this house. There is a Chair
and members of both sides of this house who are reviewing all of the issues in
that area. Not only that, but the committee is holding the second inquiry into
that hospital. The member for West Swan has been on both committees, so she has
now had two opportunities to look at the whole issue of the hospital. The
member for West Swan has had ample opportunity, as have the other members of
the committee, to read that report and to make comments on it. The contents of
the report were referred to frequently by Mr Snowball in the discussions about
the issues raised. I am not going to release it because it is a private,
confidential report from an employee to the director general and those issues
have been fully looked at. I have full confidence that the committee will
provide a report, due in the next few months, that will provide an objective
and reasonable assessment of all the issues.
Several members interjected.
Dr
K.D. HAMES : Members may well laugh. I think the committee will provide a
reasonable assessment.
Ms
R. Saffioti : Are you trying to direct the committee?
Dr
K.D. HAMES : I know that the member for West Swan has been on the committee
twice, and she is a very reasonable and objective person, so I have great
confidence that the report will be the same.
