Can the Attorney advise of any new emergency services measures in Perth’s southern corridor? Hon PETER FOSS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. New measures implemented by the Fire and Emergency Services Authority in Perth’s southern corridor include the following - Success Fire Station: The new fire station in Success to replace the old Spearwood fire station was officially opened by the Minister for Emergency Services on Tuesday, 29 August 2000. Success Fire Station has been specifically located to cater for future urban expansion in the southern freeway corridor. Kwinana industrial strip: Negotiations are taking place with BP Kwinana with regard to options for future emergency service delivery arrangements within the Kwinana industrial strip. Baldivis Bush Fire Brigade: The City of Rockingham, in conjunction with FESA, is establishing a new bush fire brigade fire station located at the Tranby College site. The station will house additional resources and supplement the existing bush fire brigades in Singleton and Baldivis. The building is scheduled for completion in late December 2000. Mandurah fire station: A new career fire station will be constructed in Mandurah and will complement the existing volunteer brigade that currently services Mandurah. I see Hon John Cowdell is interested. I am sure he will be invited to the opening. Hon Kim Chance: That will be a change for this Government. Hon PETER FOSS: I always invite members of the Opposition. They do not always turn up. Hon Kim Chance: I have never had an invitation in my electorate, including to the opening of the Geraldton Maritime Museum. It was a disgrace. Hon PETER FOSS: I did not get invited to that either. I must send Hon Kim Chance a copy of my latest law and order bulletin, which shows the laying of the foundation stone for the Rockingham Justice Centre. The front page has a photograph of the local Labor member. Members opposite will be pleased to see that. A new career fire station will be constructed at Mandurah and will complement the existing volunteer brigade that currently services Mandurah. It is anticipated that the new Mandurah station will open in January 2001.
