MANNING ROAD OFF-RAMP
978. MR S.J. PRICE to the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the McGowan government's
latest congestion-busting project—the Manning Road off-ramp. Can the
minister outline the benefits to commuters of this latest project, and can the
minister update the house on the McGowan government's
congestion-busting agenda?

I thank the member for Forrestfield
for the question. Today, I was out there with my good friend the member for
South Perth delivering on yet more initiatives for his constituency. I will
talk about them in a minute.
Several members interjected.
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : I will get
to that. Of course, we have already introduced a new bus stop at the Manning
hub. Today, WA Labor is delivering on a project that that member has been
campaigning for since he got elected. It is good that the WA Labor government
can deliver on a project that his own side could not deliver in eight and a half years! The Manning Road on-ramp will deliver
to the constituents of not only the member for South Perth, but also the
members for Cannington and Victoria Park. It will have great benefits across
the network. The on-ramp going south will firstly make it much easier for the
good residents of Como and Manning to access the freeway south, and, of course,
it will take a lot of pressure off other roads such as Canning Highway and
Leach Highway, which will benefit residents from Victoria Park to Cannington.
Because there is no Manning Road on-ramp to the south, drivers in that area currently use Canning Highway and Leach Highway for
access. We believe this will s ignificantly reduce the time travelled in
that area, save people a lot of time and improve safety. It is a great project.
I am so glad that we could deliver this for the member for South Perth and
members on this side.
The SPEAKER : Hear, hear!
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : I have an
offer for the member, though. We have already seen the John McGrath pavilions b eing
built out there.
Mr B.S. Wyatt : There are 17
of them!
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : There are a lot
of pavilions! There they are—the John McGrath pavilions. I know that he
may not be contesting the next election, so
he has 18 months left. Come to our side, and we can rename the Manning Road on-ramp the ''Johnny McGrath on-ramp''.
The SPEAKER : As long as it
is not a memorial!
