In the minister’s answer to a question I asked yesterday, he advised that the provision of bottled water in some Ningaloo towns is not the Government’s promised strategy to improve water supplies in those towns. (1) In view of the fact that this is not the Government’s strategy, can the minister advise what is the Government’s strategy? (2) Does the minister agree with the Australian Labor Party’s policy document, which states that the residents of those towns are at considerable risk in view of the quality of the water supply? Hon N.D. GRIFFITHS

(1)-(2) My role as Minister for Government Enterprises involves a ministerial responsibility for a corporatised body called the Water Corporation. The overall water resource policy of the State is the responsibility of Hon Judy Edwards, who has ministerial responsibility for two agencies: the Water and Rivers Commission and the Office of Water Regulation. The Water Corporation is licensed by the Water and Rivers Commission, and that is regulated by the Office of Water Regulation. That interesting state of affairs was brought into being by the previous Government. Therefore, the question that is addressed to me is more appropriately addressed to the minister representing Hon Judy Edwards, after some notice of the question has been given in the normal way.
