I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) No resident
nephrologist positions are allocated to Broome or Derby. Nephrology services to
the WA Country Health Service Kimberley region are provided by a visiting
service from Royal Perth Hospital. For 2011–12, this visiting service
comprised one nephrologist undertaking 11 visits, equivalent to five days. For
2012–13, this visiting service comprised two nephrologists undertaking
12 visits, equivalent to 22 days. The visits occurred at Broome, Derby, Fitzroy
Crossing, Kununurra, Halls Creek, Balgo, Wyndham and Kalumburu.
In July 2013, a service-level
agreement between RPH and WACHS was developed and agreed for the provision of
nephrologist services to WACHS Kimberley and Pilbara regions effective 1 July
2014 to 30 June 2018.
This service in 2013–14 was
provided by two nephrologists undertaking 13 visits usually of two to three
days' duration, equivalent to 30 days, and eight telehealth clinics.
In August 2014, in line with the
staged increase in dialysis activity associated with the new dialysis units in
Derby and Kununurra, nephrologist services were increased to 12 visits of five days'
duration, equivalent to 60 days, and 26 telehealth clinics, under the WACHS–RPH
SLA.
(2)
(a) A physician undertaking a nephrologist specialist training program and
backfilling a resident physician was employed for 0.4 FTE renal support from 30
January 2012 to 29 June 2014. This position was based in Broome and provided
