DEPARTMENT OF FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES —
RURAL FIRE SERVICE — ESTABLISHMENT
1191. Hon LAINE McDONALD to the Attorney
General representing the Minister for Emergency Services:
I refer to the government's
recent commitment to establish a rural fire service as either a separate
department or a sub-department of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services
and the statement that consultation will now occur with interested parties.
(1) Does the term ''interested
parties'' mean the same as ''stakeholders''?
(2) If no to (1), what is the
intention?
(3) How will parties be able to
express their interest?
(4) If yes to (1), who is, or what
organisations are, envisaged to be consulted?
(5) When will this consultation
commence and conclude?

AnswerView source ↗

On
behalf of the Minister for Emergency Services, I thank the honourable member
for some notice of the question.
(1) Yes, although
I would have thought that ''interested parties'' is a better way
of expressing the buzzword ''stakeholders'', rather than the
other way around.
(2) Not applicable.
(3) The Minister for Emergency
Services is arranging face-to-face meetings.
(4) It is
envisaged that emergency services representative associations, local
governments, members of Parliament and industry associations relevant to
bushfire management will be consulted.
(5) Meetings will commence by the
end of October and will be concluded by the end of December.
