BUSES —
WHEELCHAIR ACCESS
908. Hon SUE ELLERY to the Minister for Disability Services:
(1) Is the
minister aware of complaints about the new public transport buses that were
announced as being completely accessible for people in wheelchairs, but are in
fact not accessible without assistance as the larger wheels mean the ramp
cannot be lowered far enough to be completely level with the kerb?
(2) What
action has the minister taken to ensure that people in wheelchairs can actually
access public transport without assistance?

(1)–(2)
No, I am not aware of that; it has not been brought to my attention. I am
assuming that the member is talking about new buses, as in the last six months
or something.
Hon Sue Ellery : Yes.
Hon HELEN MORTON : No; that issue has not been brought
to my attention, but I can assure the member that I will be looking into it,
because if that is the case it would be very, very unfortunate.
