In the minister’s statement 639 about the Ludlow titanium minerals mine, commitment 25 of the proponent’s environmental management commitments states that the managing director of Cable Sands (WA) Pty Ltd will sign, within two months of the statement of environmental approval being issued, a letter that the company will never pursue mining in the Tuart Forest National Park. (1) Has the minister received such a letter? (2) If yes, will the minister please table it? (3) If not, why not? Hon KIM CHANCE

There is one small variation in the question as I have it; that is, it states that “a letter stating that the company will never” etc. I think that was just an omission, and it should not change the meaning of the answer. The Minister for the Environment has provided the following response - (1) Yes. The letter was received in July 2003, approximately four months before the minister granted formal approval of the project via ministerial statement 639 issued on 25 November 2003. (2) The letter is attached. (3) Not applicable.
