FINANCE BROKERS, LEGAL ACTION
I have a supplementary question. How does the minister explain the fact that numerous investors, who attended meetings last year with Labor’s fair trading spokesman and consumer advocates such as Denise Brailey and Doug Solomon, seem to understand what his promise means but neither he nor the Attorney General understands what it means? Mr KOBELKE

The five-point plan put out by the now Attorney General when the Labor Party was in opposition was distributed widely so that people knew they were the five points to which the Labor Opposition was committed when it came into government. At numerous meetings people tried to attach various meanings to that five-point plan. However, at the public meeting, when the Attorney General was pressed on those matters, he made our position clear. It is on the record. In fact, at one time in this place, Premier Court put to the member for Fremantle in opposition that it would mean a Labor Government would have an open cheque book to fund whatever people’s accusations outlined. The member for Fremantle made it clear at the time that was not our policy. It was reiterated on many occasions that Labor’s commitment was outlined in the five-point plan and nothing more.
