(1) The figure of more than 780,000 spectators was calculated by adding the estimated number of spectators for each event on the calendar based on: a) independently conducted economic impact research report/post event report results for events that have been held in previous years; or b) estimated spectator numbers based on feasibility assessments carried out by Eventscorp on new events. Actual figure was 781,500.
(2) The figure of almost 300,000 visitor nights was calculated by adding the estimated number of visitor nights for each event on the calendar based on: a) independently conducted economic impact research report/post event report results for events that have been held in previous years; or b) estimated visitor nights based on feasibility assessments carried out by Eventscorp on new events. Visitor nights in this context only include people who were specifically visiting WA from overseas or interstate for each event. Actual figure was 290,181.
(3) The figure of over 2,000 hours of television broadcasting was calculated by adding the estimated number of television broadcast hours for each event on the calendar based on event holder television distribution reports and/or independently compiled media impact research results and/or post event report results. Actual figure was 2,138.
(4) The figures in (1), (2) and (3) were compiled by Tourism Western Australia staff based on research results and information provided by event holders, independent research organisations and forecast estimates by Eventscorp staff.
(5) Tourism Western Australia/Eventscorp staff involved in conducting these calculations were levels two, six and eight.
(6) Not Applicable.
(7) No.
(8) No.
(9) Budget outcomes will be announced when the 2009/10 State Budget is released.
(10) Tourism Western Australia does not make forecasts for the tourism industry; this is the responsibility of the Australian Government's Tourism Forecasting Committee (TFC). In December 2008 the TFC forecast that in 2009 inbound tourist arrivals to Australia will fall by 4.1% and outbound Australian tourism departures will fall by 2.9%. Forecasts for WA specifically relate only to the number of domestic visitor nights. Domestic visitor nights to WA are forecast by TFC to fall by 1.2% in 2009, compared to a fall nationally of 0.9%.
