SCARBOROUGH LNG PROJECT
811. Dr D.J. HONEY to the Minister for Energy:
I have a supplementary question.
I thank the minister for his answer
to that part of the question. What representations has the minister made to his
federal colleagues to ensure that we do not see similar delays with future gas
projects in Western Australia?

Nobody in Australia is more
supportive of Western Australia's resources industry than Hon Madeleine
King. Hon Madeleine King is an outstanding Western Australian and a massive
contributor to our nation, unlike the last two federal resources ministers, who
were so focused on Queensland coal projects that they forgot that most of the
resources industry happens here in Western Australia. Hon Madeleine King has
been quoted in the media as saying that she is examining the processes that the
federal government might need to use to respond to the Federal Court decision.
I hate to point this out to the member, but there is this concept called the
separation of powers. The Federal Court made the decision. It was not a decision
of the Commonwealth of Australia; it was a decision of the Federal Court. I have
certainly spoken to Madeleine King's chief of staff a couple of times,
but everything I have read that Madeleine King is doing is exactly what I think
she should do. I have no additional advice to provide to Hon Madeleine King
because I think she is doing an outstanding job.
The SPEAKER : That concludes
question time.
