DISABILITY
SERVICES COMMISSION — COORA PLACE GROUP HOMES
1235. Hon STEPHEN DAWSON to the
Minister for Disability Services:
I refer to the Disability Services Commission group homes at
Coora Place.
(1) Is the
minister aware of concerns expressed that changes have recently occurred in
relation to cleaning services?
(2) What changes have been made to cleaning services provided
in each of these properties?
(3) Are care staff now expected to undertake cleaning duties
as part of their duties?
(4) Have cost savings been made as a result of the changes;
and, if yes, how much?
(5) Have
changes occurred to the amount of cleaning undertaken in any other group home;
and, if so, what are the changes?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice of the question.
(1) The Disability Services Commission has advised me of
concerns raised.
(2) The
commission does not have a specific cleaning service. Staff undertake cleaning
as part of their existing role in supporting residents in their activities and
needs of daily living. The needs change from week to week, depending on the
activities being undertaken in the house.
(3) Cleaning
duties are an inherent part of a social trainer's role. This includes
ensuring an appropriate level of hygiene and cleanliness is maintained within
the home. When needed, additional cleaning support is provided.
(4) This is not a cost-saving exercise.
(5) The
approach in supporting residents in their activities of daily living is
consistent across group homes. The commission is committed to maintaining a
high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in group homes.
