CYCLONE SEROJA — STATE RECOVERY CONTROLLER VISITS
346. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the Minister for Emergency
Services:
I refer to the minister's
answer to question without notice 245, asked on 16 March 2023, which confirmed
that the state recovery controller for tropical cyclone Seroja last visited the
affected region on 13 October 2022.
(1) Is it correct
that the state recovery controller has not visited the affected region for more
than five months?
(2) Has the state
recovery controller met with industry representatives from the building and
construction sector regarding cyclone Seroja recovery; and, if so, can the
minister please provide details?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The dates provided in the answer to question
without notice 245 are correct. The Department of Fire and Emergency
Services state recovery team maintains a permanent presence in the region, and
both the Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner and I were in the region
recently.
In addition to her role as the state
recovery controller for severe tropical cyclone Seroja, Melissa Pexton is now
the deputy commissioner, strategy and emergency management, for the Department
of Fire and Emergency Services, which sees her overseeing the entire recovery
and resilience portfolio.
(2) The DFES
state recovery team has met with industry representatives from the building and
construction industry on a regular basis.
This has been done through DFES's ongoing relationship with the Master
Builders Association of WA.
