STATE ECONOMY — MORTGAGE STRESS
749. Mr S.K. L'ESTRANGE to the Premier:
I refer to Standard and Poor's
global ratings analysis of households in Australia that are more than 30 days
behind on their mortgage payments. What is the Premier's response to
the fact that eight of the 20 regions listed are in Western Australia,
including Perth?

AnswerView source ↗

My response is that the previous
government should not have put up land taxes three times, and should not have deliberately driven down people's equity
in their homes. Why did members opposite do that? I realise that the member for Churchlands was not the minister responsible, but the deputy leader of the
Liberal Party has outed him on it. The opposition, when in government, put up
land tax three times, as a deliberate strategy to drive down the price of
houses, and now complains about housing prices going down.
