DEPARTMENT
OF PARKS AND WILDLIFE HEADQUARTERS — RELOCATION
67. Hon ADELE FARINA to
the minister representing the Minister for Culture and the Arts:
I refer to question without notice 23 asked by me on 17
February 2015, and the answer provided by the Minister for Mental Health.
(1) The
Minister for Mental Health said that the Maritime Archaeological Act 1973
protects only the wrecks or archaeological material, not an entire lot. Does
the Minister for Culture and the Arts agree with this statement by the
minister?
(2) Does
section 9(1) of the Maritime Archaeology Act 1973 provide the Governor, by an
instrument published in the Gazette ,
with the power to declare that an area is a maritime archaeological site and
that a specified area surrounding that site is a protected zone?
(3) Has the
Governor exercised the section 9(1) power in relation to any shipwreck or
archaeological material at lots 881, 882 and 883 Koombana Drive, Bunbury?
(4) If yes to
(3), will the Minister for Culture and the Arts provide a map identifying the
maritime archaeological sites on each of lot 881, 882 and 883?
(5) If no to
(3), why not, given the fact that shipwrecks and archaeological material has
been identified on the lots?
