The Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) advises:
(a)
Light industrial land is currently available for lease within the Coolgardie Townsite.
(b)
DMP does not have input into funding arrangements for infrastructure projects. DMP has advised the Shire of Coolgardie to investigate Royalties for Regions funding where possible.
(c)
Refer to (a)
(d)
The Shire of Coolgardie can access its existing industrial land via a Crown lease. DMP may object to applications for freehold land where they are in close proximity to known gold resources. As well as protecting access to resources, these objections are made to avoid exacerbating the land use conflicts currently experienced by towns throughout the Goldfields as a result of their location within highly mineralised regions.
(e)
The south eastern part of the Townsite lies within a highly gold mineralised area that has been mined intermittently for over 100 years. The
Mining Act 1978
provides for mining within townsites subject to consultation with the Minister responsible for the
Land Administration Act 1997
and the Shire. In recent years, mining activity within the townsite has been restricted to exploration.
