BROWSE LNG PROJECT — JAMES PRICE POINT SITE
668. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I note that this question was asked in the last session.
I refer to question on notice 5128 dated 6 March 2012
regarding the development of the Browse Basin gas hub at James Price Point and
the Premier's comments reported in The Australian Financial Review on 22 December
2011 suggesting it is not feasible to pipe Browse gas to Karratha because
higher costs would arise to develop new discoveries in the region and that at
some stage there was going to have to be a development on the Kimberley
coastline.
(1) Which gas,
aside from Browse Basin gas, does the Premier foresee will be processed at the
proposed James Price Point site?
(2) Will the
Premier rule out the possibility that gas from the Canning Basin will be
processed at the James Price Point site?
(3) If no to (2),
why not?
(4) Will the
Premier rule out the possibility that gas from the Canning basin will be
processed at James Price Point regardless of whether the Browse Basin gas is
processed?
(5) If no to (4),
why not?

I thank the member for some notice of this question.
(1)–(5)
There is no restriction on the source of feedstock that may be used within the
Browse LNG precinct. This is a matter for project proponents based upon the
environmental and other approvals processes undertaken with respect to the gas
production facility, and their assessment of project economics.
