I refer to international students enrolling in local institutions for 2024, and I ask: (a) How many foreign students enrolled in primary schools, by nationality; (b) How many foreign primary school students received any financial assistance, by the type of assistance; (c) How many foreign students enrolled in high schools, by nationality; (d) How many foreign high school students received any financial assistance, by the type of assistance; (e) How many foreign students enrolled in university studies, by nationality; (f) How many foreign university students received any financial assistance, by the type of assistance; (g) How many foreign students enrolled in TAFE, by nationality; (h) How many foreign TAFE students received any financial assistance, by the type of assistance; (i) What is the total sum spent by the WA government on foreign student assistance; and (j) What are the foreign student fees for primary and high schools?

(a) Between 1 January 2024 and 12 August 2024, there were 61 unique enrolments in primary schools where attendance has been confirmed. For the breakdown by nationality [See tabled paper no.]
(b) Nil provided by the international education budget.
(c) Between 1 January 2024 and 12 August 2024, there were 585 unique enrolments in high schools where attendance has been confirmed. [See tabled paper no.]
(d) Nil provided by the international education budget.
(e) University specific data for 2024 is not currently available. However, between January 2024 and April 2024, Western Australia recorded 35 074 enrolments and 10 698 commencements from overseas students across all higher education institutions (including universities) from 137 countries. For information on the top 10 enrolment source markets between January 2024 and April 2024 [See tabled paper no.]
(f) Between January 2024 and August 2024, the Western Australian Government provided a total of $720 000 in financial support to 18 students. This has been via scholarships that are intended to attract high achieving international students to the State. Six students were provided $20 000 each as part of the Premier’s WACE Bursary. The Premier’s University Scholarship provided $50 000 each to 12 students.
(g) As of 13 August 2024, 1 463 international students were enrolled in Western Australian TAFE colleges. For a full list of enrolments by nationality [See tabled paper no.]
(h) As of 13 August 2024, 46 international students enrolled to study in 2024 at regional TAFE colleges were awarded a $5 000 bursary as part of the Regional TAFE International Student Strategy.
(i) As of August 2024, the Western Australian Government has provided $950 000 from the international education budget to support overseas students studying in Western Australia ($720 000 to university students and $230 000 to TAFE students).
