DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH — BUDGET
731. Mr R.H. COOK to the Minister for
Health:
I have a supplementary question. The minister is responsible for a $218
million blowout; why cannot he provide a very basic breakdown for what the
report identifies as building alterations and additions, and computer services
and consumables? What is the proportion and the breakdown of those numbers?

AnswerView source ↗

The health budget was increased by
about 4.8 per cent in the current financial year. That is less than the annual
increase of around seven to eight per cent over the last decade. A lot of
effort has been put into increasing the number of services provided on the one
hand, while containing cost increases on the other. The health system operated
within the amount of funds that was allocated to it in the last financial year.
Mr
M. McGowan interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Leader of the Opposition, I call you to order for the first time.
Mr
M. McGowan interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Thank you!
Mr
J.H.D. DAY : As I said, the health system operated within a large amount of
funding—over $8 billion was allocated to it in the last financial year.
As I said in answer to the last question, if the member wants detailed
information about building alterations, he either needs to put it on notice or
give some notice of it.
