SCHOOL NURSES
644. Hon SUE ELLERY to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
My question without notice of which some notice has been
given was to the Minister for Education, but I think it has been redirected to
the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health.
Hon Peter Collier : Yes.
Hon SUE ELLERY : I refer to the 155 extra school
nurses for Western Australian schools announced during the election.
(1) What is
the time line of the rollout of the additional 155 full-time equivalent school
nurses in the next three years, and what schools will they go to?
(2) To date, how many school nurses have been appointed since
the election?

I thank the member for some notice of the question.
(1) The 2013–14
state budget provided $38 million for 155 school health staff over four years.
In the metropolitan area in 2013–14, a total of 19.1 FTE school health
nurses are to be appointed as well as one FTE nurse manager.
In the metropolitan area, the
total school health nurse FTE increases in 2013–14 are: Canning, 1.06;
central, 1.06; Gosnells, 1.45; Riverlands, 1.39; valley and hills, 1.54;
Hepburn, 1.18; Jackadder Lake, 1.81; Neerabup, 1.13; Reabold, 1.38; Yellagonga,
1.35; Fremantle–Cockburn, 1.17; Kwinana, 0.35; Melville, 0.81; Peel,
0.86; Rockingham, 1.63; and Wungong, 0.84. The total is 19.01. Allocations in
other years are not yet confirmed.
In the WA Country Health Service,
school health staff will be employed throughout the four-year funding period.
All country regions will benefit from increased FTEs in school health over the
four years. They will boost capacity in the existing school health workforce.
In country WA, school health staff cover multiple schools within regional
areas. The allocations of school health nurse FTEs are presented in tabular
form, so I seek leave to table that and have it incorporated into Hansard .
Leave granted.
