I refer to question without notice 61 asked on 20 February
2014.
(1) Have any more sharks caught on drum lines been tagged
with acoustic tags since 20 February 2014?
(2) For each
of the sharks that have been tagged with acoustic tags to date, will the
minister please provide details about if, and where, they have been detected
since their release?
(3) How many
of the sharks that have been released from the drum lines have been recaptured,
including how many of those that have been tagged with —
(a) acoustic tags; and
(b) non-transmitting tags?
(4) How many
of the sharks that have been released from the drum lines in the expectation
they will survive have —
(a) since been found dead; or
(b) based on acoustic data, are
suspected to be dead?
(5) In what

scientific knowledge to date?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) No.
(2) Not applicable.
(3) (a)–(b) None.
(4) (a) Zero.
(b) One.
(5) The
tagging and releasing of sharks from drum lines has added to the number of
sharks that are now part of this research program. This will generate a better
understanding of the movements, location, species and number of sharks in
Western Australian waters.
