GRIFFIN COAL — LIQUIDATOR
686. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the minister representing the
Minister for State and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade:
I refer to my question without notice
584 of 13 June 2023, which unveiled that additional funding streams have been
allocated to Griffin Coal managers and receivers in addition to the $19.5 million
dollar ''grant'' announced in December 2022.
(1) From what account or revenue
stream has the additional Griffin grant money been sourced or accessed?
(2) How was the
value of the new grant money calculated, and who undertook the modelling and
financial determinations?
(3) Is there a funding
cap or time frame limitation attached to the state's ongoing funding of
the insolvent Griffin Coal, or is it open-ended?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the Leader of the Opposition
for some notice of the question.
(1) The government has allocated
funding to the Department of the Premier and Cabinet for this purpose.
(2) Funding
requests were assessed in accordance with the terms of the financial assistance
agreement. Prior to payment, the receivers and managers provided supporting
information for expenditure consistent with normal government standards for payments,
including information about expenditure and invoices.
(3) As the
Premier has stated previously, although the government is committed to
transparency and will provide updates when
possible to ensure the public remains informed, this matter is commercially
sensitive and there are limitations on what the government can share.
