PROSPECTOR RAILCARS
I refer to the answer to question on notice 43 given on 21 June 2005 in the Legislative Assembly concerning the existing Prospector railcars and ask - (1) Have all railcars now been decommissioned following the introduction of new trains for the AvonLink service? (2) Has the minister given any further consideration to donating one railcar to the Australian Railways Historical Society (WA Division) in Bassendean to be maintained as part of its museum of Western Australia’s railway heritage; if not, why not? Hon ADELE FARINA

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Yes. (2) Consideration is being given to a request from the Australian Railway Historical Society (WA Division) to acquire a railcar from the decommissioned fleet. It should be noted that Labor governments, unlike Liberal governments, are more interested in seeing trains out working, moving passengers and freight, than simply consigned to museums.
