I refer to ward C14 at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
(1) Is this
ward staffed solely by St John Ambulance personnel; and, if not, which other
personnel are working there?
(2) What is the status of patients held in the ward? Are they
designated as —
(a) admitted to SCGH;
(b) admitted to SCGH emergency
department;
(c) ambulance ramped; and
(d) other designation, please

government-owned hospitals have similar facilities staffed by St John Ambulance

(2) Patients
are not designated a status. The ambulance surge unit is located at Sir Charles
Gairdner Hospital, and operates within a designated area previously known as
ward C14. The surge unit has been fitted out similar to a general practitioner
clinic and consists of 16 bays that are utilised for assessment and GP-type
treatment. Following assessment, patients are either discharged home,
transferred to a private hospital or transferred to a public hospital emergency
department.
(3) No.
(4) The ambulance surge unit operated from 6 May 2013 to 30 September
2013.
(5) WA Health contributed an amount of $420 000 towards the
ambulance surge unit.
