RESIDENTIAL NET FEED–IN
TARIFF — REVISED COST
238. Hon ED DERMER to the Minister for Energy:
I can assure the minister that no
notice of the question has been given. I would like to refer to the article in
today's The West Australian which quoted the minister as saying yesterday that the ''electricity
retailer Synergy would have to wear $150 million of the revised cost''
of the feed-in tariff scheme. I am interested to hear from the minister about
what increase in electricity tariff will be required to cover the $150 million
that he referred to yesterday.

I thank the honourable member for the question.
It is $15 million over 10 years.
Hon Ed Dermer : It is $150 million over 10 years,
minister.
Hon PETER COLLIER : Sorry; $15 million per year over 10 years.
I am sorry, I missed the ''per year''. That is exactly right.
Hon Ed Dermer : That is more accurate than your previous
answer.
Hon PETER COLLIER : It will not have any impact on tariffs.
There is a cost stack for tariffs. Synergy in itself is in the competitive
retail market. A significant proportion of the customers of Synergy are not
residential customers; they are commercial customers. The government trading
enterprises, one of which is Synergy, were established by the Labor Party. We
need to remember this: it is called the disaggregation process. The opposition
wanted the GTEs to go out in the commercial world and make money, and they do
pay dividends back to the government. The decision that was made here was that
Synergy would offset that; $15 million per annum over the next year as a
component of the feed-in tariff will pay for the continuation and completion of
the feed-in tariff.
