WORK-RELATED
FATALITIES — FALLING OBJECTS
1031. Hon KATE DOUST to the
Minister for Commerce:
I note in the ''State of the Work Environment: Work-related
fatalities, Western Australia, 2006–2007 to 2012–2013''
report that fatalities from being hit by falling objects is the prevalent
mechanism of incident associated with traumatic work-related fatalities in
Western Australia, accounting for 23.2 per cent of total fatalities across
several occupation groups. What action is WorkSafe taking to address this
incidence as a key factor in workplace fatalities?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
WorkSafe commits significant resources to improving
occupational safety and health in Western Australian workplaces. These
fatalities occurred across a number of industry groups and are fully
investigated as is usual practice. Any lessons from these investigations are
shared with workplace participants.
