KANGAROOS — PROFESSIONAL SHOOTINGS
Further to my question without notice 177 in relation to the shooting of kangaroos in Western Australia — (1) Does the national code of practice for the humane shooting of kangaroos recommend shooters not shoot female kangaroos with young at foot? (2) If yes to (1), how is this recommendation enforced? (3) How do the commercial shooters determine which young at foot belong to which mother shot? (4) Can the minister confirm that 100 per cent of the dependent kangaroos at foot are humanely killed? (5) Can the minister describe how commercial shooters humanely destroy dependent offspring? (6) Is it not a fact that large numbers of dependent young at foot are left to die from starvation, dehydration and predation? (7) What is the policy reason for the substantial killing of female kangaroos and their offspring in Western Australia? Hon SALLY TALBOT
