Mr. Catania's question about the Cook government's investment in Perth's eastern suburbs, specifically Midland, was met with a detailed response from the Treasurer highlighting various infrastructure and service projects. The Treasurer then pivoted to a highly political attack on the Liberal Party and its leadership, questioning their internal stability and alliances.

Cook government—Midland—Performance
326. Mr Steve Catania to
the Treasurer:
I
refer to the Cook Labor government's investment in infrastructure and services
in Perth's eastern suburbs.
(1) Can the Treasurer outline
to the house how investment in this year's state budget is delivering real
outcomes for Midland and the broader community?
(2) Can the Treasurer advise
the house if she is aware of any risks to this important social and economic
investment?

(1)–(2) I thank the member for
Midland for that question. Just last week, the member for Midland and the
member for Swan Hills held a budget presentation at Mandoon Estate in the Swan
Valley. Over 200 local businesspeople came along to listen to us outline
the very strong economic plan for this state, the very strong set of finances
and also the incredible delivery that is happening in that corridor, such as investment
in Midland Health Campus. I know that the member for Kalamunda is embarrassed
that the Leader of the Opposition forgot to mention it on Monday. There is also
our commitment to the Lloyd Street bridge and the fantastic new Midland train
station, which is having an impact in that area. In addition, new housing
projects are being delivered in close proximity to Midland station. The Bellevue
train manufacturing facility has returned train manufacturing to Midland and
surrounds after a Liberal–National alliance government killed rail
manufacturing in Western Australia. There is also the commitment through the
entire corridor for road infrastructure and, as the member for Swan Hills
mentioned in the introduction, the new upcoming Swan Valley sculpture trail. There
is a lot to talk about. The message out there in the eastern suburbs is very
positive.
At the last
election, the Liberal Party candidate for Midland was Mike Matich. Does the
member for Midland remember that? Here is a picture of Mike Matich with the Leader
of the Opposition and Hon Anthony Spagnolo. Mike is hosting a new party
this afternoon. Even though he was a candidate at the last election, he is
looking elsewhere and shopping around. Only a month ago, he stood next to the Leader
of the Opposition. Now, he does not think that the Leader of the Opposition is
up to it, so he is shopping around, just like the Liberal Party is doing when
it comes to dance partners. We know that one of the reasons that the National
Party is a little bit sensitive today is that the Liberal Party is looking for
a new best friend—a BFF. Do members remember the BFF bracelet that the Liberal
and National Parties had? The Liberal Party has ditched it. It has broken it
and is looking for a new BFF. We even heard the response of Hon Dr Steve
Thomas on radio when he was asked whether the Liberal Party would preference
the National Party over One Nation. He said he was not too sure. The Liberal
Party has a new BFF in town and that is why members of the National Party are looking
so angry and being called to order so quickly. I know that the member for
Kalamunda is upset about the Leader of the Opposition forgetting Midland hospital,
even though he has been campaigning on it. The Liberal Party is looking for a new
BFF, ditching the Nationals so early into their new bromance. As we know, the
Leader of the Opposition is just desperate and, in desperation, he will side
with anyone for his own career.
